Hazel says even though she's running one last time, she won't be staging a campaign, collecting any money or spending it. In her last election she won with 98% of the majority of votes... and her campaign consisted of a plate of cookies. That's enough to inspire even Rob Ford.

It could be an interesting October 25th in the GTA.

As you may have read in previous postings, I have been trying to clean the pine tar off my car. It's nasty. I was driving through a torrential downpour today with a smeared windshield - can this be safe?

This morning we got a call from a listener from Newfoundland who had a home remedy.

Butter.

Smear it over the car and the sap will just wash off.

I have a mission for the weekend. A pound of butter and a bucket of soapy water. Let's hope it works and saves me the $200 to have it detailed.
(They probably use butter, too.)

The only concern... will the added cholesterol reduce the life of my Jeep? Update Tuesday.

Jackie was back on again last night, having made the top 10. Hard to say anything negative about her - except I'm still expecting a CD player to fall out of her dress while she's singing.

If you missed the earlier performance, here's last night's encore.

There's only one way to deal with a heat wave - turn up the music and dance your way through it.

And there was only one Heatwave - with the now-Detroit city councillor Martha Reeves leading the Vandellas and backed by the Funk Brothers.

Vinyl 95.3 was proud to present the Funk Brothers at the Ex this year. For the uninititiated, the Funk Brothers were the studio musicians who played on all of the great Motown hits of the sixties and seventies - more gold records than any other group. There's an incredible documentary about them called "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" where the original band mates re-create the classic tracks. Check it out at your video store.

Not surprisingly, the majority of respondents chose the food... no doubt spurred on by this year's special "Deep-fried Butter."

What surprised me was how low the ratings for the Midway were - only 12% compared to the 17% ratings for both the Air Show and Concerts at the Bandshell. I guess as we all get a little older, the thrill of victory is no longer getting the front seat on The Flyer - but just keeping those deep-fried butter balls down after the ride.

So, whether you're going for the food, rides, airshow or just to meet Gord James at the Vinyl booth by the Press building, enjoy this year's Grand Old Lady ...

I Blame the Group of Seven

I started the summer with a clean car. It's almost three years old but looked brand new. Now, as we approach the end of the summer, it looks like a pimpley-faced teenager. The pox it suffers from is the constant dripping of sap from a large pine tree looming over my parking spot in the driveway. All summer long - a drip at a time - it finally reached the tipping point on my vacation where I vowed to clean and wax it.

So, I bought the tar-remover spray (not cheap) and washed the car. Then, for the next hour and a half I followed all the instructions and cleaned the front quarter panel. That's all. And all the while I was thinking - there must be a better way.

Well, aside from giving it to a detailer, I can't think of one.

Suggestions?

After watching everyone around the New Vinyl 95.3 disappear for a week or two at a time for summer vacation (Corrie was gone nearly a month) I'm finally taking a week off.

It's hardly a week off - I'll be doing chores around the cottage - but it'll be nice to get away from the 3AM alarm.

Have a great time - Derek Rivers sits in the next few days and I'll be back for the end of the month.

How did Roger Federer lose to Andy Murray last weekend at the Rogers Cup?

It's the Swiss tennis star's chance to play the legendary Swiss hero, William Tell.

Real or not - it's sure fun to watch.
